Dean Magee is the Chief Data Scientist at Geografia, where he applies his expertise in data, statistics, and machine learning to tackle complex economic and infrastructure planning challenges. He first joined Geografia as a postgraduate student at Melbourne University and became a full-time team member in 2016 after completing an Eric & Wendy Schmidt Data Science for Social Good Fellowship at the University of Chicago.

Dean leads the data science initiatives at Geografia, with notable projects including developing an online infrastructure demand model for the City of Melbourne, managing the Spendmapp program, and building a python-based population forecasting model for the NSW Government. He also designed algorithms to predict driver behaviour for the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria. Dean’s work is driven by a passion for using data science and econometrics to inform evidence-based public policy.
