Spending is behaviour, not a statistic.

Spendmapp shows how residents and visitors use local economies: where spending concentrates, when behaviour changes and which purchases leave the area. That evidence helps distinguish assumed demand from what people actually do.

It has tracked spending down to the month, day and time of day since January 2019, at national, state, council, suburb or precinct scale. A centre that looks busy can still be losing its evening economy; a quiet strip can hold spending that municipal averages conceal. Observed expenditure shows which is true.

Questions Spendmapp answers

  • Where does local spending stay, and where does it leave?
  • Which centres, times and categories are changing?
  • How do residents and visitors use the local economy differently?
  • Which opportunities reflect real observed behaviour rather than assumed demand?

Where it gets used

  • Business and retail performance, precinct by precinct.
  • Strategic planning built on what people actually spend.
  • Tourism and visitor-economy impact, measured rather than modelled.
  • Night-time economic activity, hour by hour.
  • Policy and event impact, tracked before and after.
  • Economic health, monitored continuously rather than by survey.

Evidence with judgement attached

Subscribers work with the same team that relies on the data in its own analysis.

Built by economic development practitioners for economic development practitioners, strategic planners and community-development teams, Spendmapp is one of Geografia's two evidence platforms: it strengthens our consulting work and continues measuring after a commission ends. The numbers arrive with an interpretation of what they mean for a centre, a strategy or a budget bid.
