We’re very pleased to announce that Geografia has successfully secured grant funding to undertake a feasibility study into unlocking and integrating new data sources into a tourism prediction/analytics model. The model will more effectively measure how the industry is changing and where the opportunities for investment are.
The grant is in response to a challenge proposed by Tourism Research Australia (a division of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission — Austrade). It is part of the Federal Government’s Business Research and Innovation Initiative program which provides small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with grant funding to develop innovative solutions for government policy and service delivery challenges.
Our project will determine the feasibility of an online tool (working title, Tourism Revenue Impact Predictor — ‘TRIP’) which will accurately forecast the effects of investment decisions on visitor economies through deep analysis of bank transaction data as well as data on facility and service provision, TRA visitor survey data and other sources.
For more information, read the media release from the Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, the Hon Karen Andrews MP who announced successful applications under the Business Research and Innovation Initiative (BRII) this morning.
