SEM Regional Economic and Social Profile

South East Melbourne

This was an exercise in compiling extensive social and economic data for the seven municipalities that make up the South East Metropolitan Region of Greater Melbourne. We took this information and created a narrative that articulated the rationale (and the pathway) for transforming the region from a place that primarily services central Melbourne, to a more polycentric, efficient economic region. A region with more local opportunities for recreation, education and employment.

Econometric modelling was undertaken to demonstrate the value of 10 major projects designed to catalyse this change. The findings are now being used to inform the City Deal negotiations for the region. We can thank our regular partner, Tim Nott, for helping us edit what can be dry data-driven analysis into a readable format.
