Our Products

Geografia designs, develops and operates a range of data analytics and visualisation tools

City Compass

City Compass is a suite of data analytics tools to guide investment and policy decisions through a better understanding of how the economy functions. City Compass products use a mix of traditional data (such as the national Census data), the integration of diverse data for land analytics and new, massive economic and people movement data, including bank transaction data and mobile phone pings. The apps are subscription products that can be purchased separately or as a package. Find out more at the links below.

Placemapp is Geografia’s latest data analytics app. Developed in partnership with mobility data experts, Near, Placemapp helps users understand how people arrive, move within and leave a particular location. Where they come from, where they gather and when.

Spendmapp is an award-winning web-based application for analysing real bank transaction data across different spending categories, locations and times. You can use this information to guide planning, policy, investment and economic development decisions.

Pop
Forecaster

In collaboration with Advanced Demographic Modelling, Geografia offers a tailored population forecasting service. Affordable, reliable and comprehensive population and household forecasts for government agencies, developers and anyone who needs place-based forecasts.

  • Client: Department of Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs (QLD)

An interactive website created to display key statistics for all of Queensland by Electoral District or Local Government Area in the categories of Language and Culture, Education, Employment, Households, and Disability. It includes data for multiple Census years.

  • Client: ACT Government

Using 2016 and 2021 Census data we prepared the content and design for a community profile that was visually engaging and captured the multicultural characteristics of the ACT. Subsequent work involved analysing trends in the demographic characteristics of the ACT's multicultural community.

Customised Data Analytics Tools

Geografia designs and builds customised data search and analytics tool for subject matter-specific websites. The links below take you to Search Diversity for Western Australia and Queensland, as well as the Urban Development Institute of Australia's City Life Analytics pages. The first two present demographic, cultural and socio-economic data for residents and the latter, a livability assessment tool for Greater Sydney. Take a look at the sites via the links below.

Search Diversity WA is an online search facility that details the demographic, cultural and social economic backgrounds of Western Australians, including profiles of all WA electoral divisions and local government areas.

  • Client: Department of Regional NSW

Geografia documented the social and economic profile of all 11 Local Land Services regions in NSW. The work includes geospatial analysis of land use trends, economic modelling, and demographic profiling. The report will be used by the Department to inform the current review of local land use provision across the State.

City Life Analytics visualises the most liveable parts of Greater Sydney based on the user’s personal preferences. It's taken liveability indicators up a notch by using machine-learning to evaluate environmental, property price, infrastructure and services data.

  • Client: Department of Local Government, Sport and Community (WA)

An interactive website created to display key statistics for all of Queensland by Electoral District or Local Government Area in the categories of Language and Culture, Education, Employment, Households, and Disability. It includes data for multiple Census years.

Built for Multicultural Affairs Queensland, Search Diversity Queensland is a free, and easy to use online interactive tool that lets you access information about the cultural diversity of communities throughout Queensland.

Our Projects

Our consulting team has completed hundreds of projects across Australia and overseas. Here is a sample of our demographic, economic and spatial analytics projects.

A sample of demography projects

  • Client: Department of Planning and Environment, NSW

The design and construction of a dynamic population forecasting model for use by the Department. The model was built with the capacity to test the impact of major housing developments, new infrastructure (e.g., roads, hospitals etc) and economic trends. Built in python and modular in design, it can incorporate new submodels and different geographies.

  • Client: Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria

An analysis of the economic, environmental, and social value of Melbourne Royal and events activities, including the Royal Show.

  • Client: V/Line

A data-driven exercise to estimate the benefits accruing to Victoria and Victorians of the services provided by V/Line. While primarily an economic study, it also included estimations of the social benefits of enabling easy travel for regional Victorians, opening up labour markets and stimulating regional population growth.

  • Client: Deputy

Geografia analysed job trends in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States using Deputy's extensive shift work hours database. It looked at emerging trends in work by age, gender and industry, including Services, Healthcare, Retail and Hospitality.

  • Client: Telstra

An analysis of the likely take up of working from home across Greater Melbourne as a result of the NBN rollout. The analysis looked at the possible effects on house prices, traffic congestion, vehicle emissions and the emergence of urban villages.

A sample of economics projects

  • Client: VPA

An economic study of the commercial and industrial potential of a large development site in the City of Casey. Working with Echelon Planning, it involved the use of big data sets to quantify office, retail, and light industrial demand and supply chain movements and catchment areas. The analysis informed recommendations for development and zoning changes.

  • Client: WSP Engineering

An analysis of mobility data to identify trends, peaks, and troughs in visitor activity at five jetties along the Eyre Peninsula as part of a larger project to develop tourism strategies for the region.

  • Client: Shire of Strathbogie

The Geografia team outlined the commercial, industrial, and retail needs for the Nagambie Employment Precinct. Collaborating with Mesh Planning and VPA, the study made recommendations for guiding the development of the site to support its role as a regional service centre.

  • Client: Mesh Planning

A study into the catchment area dynamics for Shepparton North and nearby activity centres to identify the growth and investment potential for an expansion to a regional activity centre to the north of Shepparton CBD.

A sample of spatial analytics projects

  • Client: Court Services Victoria

As part of a team led by GHD, Geografia used historical court activity data to construct a geospatial model forecasting court activity to 2031 by region and court jurisdiction. It factored in demographic influences on court activity (e.g. age, gender, income) and the influence of long-term policy and others changes on court service provision. The results are being used to inform GHD’s court service provision plan.

  • Client: Powershop (Shell Australia)

Project: A project to model and then report on the potential for SMEs to reduce their carbon footprints and contribute to Australia’s net zero target through selected, affordable investments. The information and briefing paper were used by Powershop marketing to develop a web app that SMEs could use to identify the ‘best bang for their buck’ net zero investments.
